Sophie established her own interiors company Sophie Paterson Interiors in 2008 at the age of 23, with no formal training but with plenty of good taste to spare. Since that time, Sophie has developed her company into one of the UK’s most successful interior design studios, and works on high-end projects in both the commercial and residential sectors across UK and Europe.
She even published a book, Style & Glamour, which is filled with images from her projects that not only acts as a portfolio, but also provides information and inspiration on how to create her signature Contemporary, Classic interiors.
She designs each project with a bespoke vision, which is then given to her senior design and design coordination team who manage it. Her interior decorating ideas is described as both timeless and contemporary, with an expert use of color and texture and an innovative eye for design and approachable luxury.
To furnish this townhouse, located in the heart of Chelsea. Sophie gathered a mix of antiques and contemporary furnishings. The light filled space features warm colors, and rich textures and finishes. The walls are covered in silk to add a bit of luxury. Geometric shapes are used which emphasize the period architecture. The mirrored, antique brass and ebony cabinets on either side of the fireplace are from Birgit Israel, while the leather furnishings are from Poltrona Frau. The sideboard is composed of high gloss Macassar ebony.
On the ground level, guests enter the home here in the grand entrance hall with its high ceilings and period detailing. The generous space allowed for the generously scaled pendant chandeliers are from Jamb. The designer sourced the antique mirror from a favored local antiques shop which she placed above a Macassar ebony console. The hall leads into the very glamorous kitchen and dining room which spans the entire floor.
The kitchen is completely of bespoke design by Sophie Paterson Interiors. Inspired by the Tom Ford make-up boutique in Selfridges, the kitchen is composed of Macassar ebony, Arabescato marble and smoked mirrors. The Gaggenau appliances blend harmoniously with the bespoke cabinetry. The sophisticated design is complemented with low level lighting.
The kitchen and dining area is separated by an eat-in bar. A feature wall was created in the dining area with blue faux shagreen wall-covering. Beyond the kitchen and not shown here, there is a small sitting area with French doors that open onto a paved garden with raised flowerbeds.
On the lower basement level, the space has been reconfigured to include a guest bedroom with en-suite bath, as well as a utility room and a cozy home cinema.
The master bedroom suite is composed on the next level. The look is very Ralph Lauren with a Ralph Lauren Home over-sized four poster bed serving as the focal point, along with a Poltrona Frau leather armchair and a Macassar ebony dressing table, all gathered on an antique rug. You cant see here but the wardrobe doors are upholstered in taupe leather with bespoke bronze handles to create another layer of texture and luxury. The mood in the bedroom is continued into the bath with the walls covered in Zoffany damask and bronze Heathfield lamps.
There are additional guest bedrooms moving on up. The soft neutral colors and textures are continued. Here we see more bedding from Ralph Lauren Home and zebra print Andrew Martin cushions. The bedside tables and lamps are from Porta Romana.
At the foot of the bed, we see one of several antique collectible Louis Vuitton travel trunks that are placed throughout the home. Those, along with the Hermes throws are the perfect touch to complete any room with style and established elegance.
The house is complete with a rooftop terrace with Alexander Rose furnishings. The outdoor space provides a quiet get-away along with views across London.
The spaces are small but super luxe. The walls are covered in a textured wallpaper that reflects light, and the colors are kept light and neutral. High gloss furnishings and eglomise mirrors also help enhance the feeling of spaciousness. The space was totally transformed and now has ample seating and lots of hidden storage.
The master bedroom is also of completely bespoke design. Sophie and her team designed and installed an extensive wardrobe and storage system. They even integrated it into the eaves and under the bed. The upholstered paneled headboard is bespoke designed to fit perfectly into the space, as is the dressing table. This is making the absolute most of every available inch, while keeping it elegant and luxurious.
